Join Us for the 2019 Employment Law Update

This will be the twentieth year for our Employment Law Update. Many years have come and gone, and the world has undergone dramatic changes. Like everything else, the world of HR is constantly changing: new laws, new regulations, and new benefits. But the one constant over the past two decades is FWHR and this must-attend event. Join us Friday for this year's ELU.

Member Spotlight: Ryan Detillier

#FWHR put Ryan Detillier in the hot seat for April's spotlight.

Check out Ryan's Q & A below!

Q: How do you describe your job to friends outside of HR?

A: I have an amazing opportunity to work organizations of all sizes and across different industries to address every day challenges related to their biggest asset, their people.  Pretty cool, huh?

Q: What would surprise people to learn about you?

A: I am a veteran who served in the Louisiana Air National Guard from 1999-2005. Shortly after 9/11, my unit was deployed to Incirlik Air Force Base in Turkey for over 4 months as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

A: I'd want the ability to teleport so I can be on a beach at a moment's notice.

Q: How do you spend your time away from work?

A: I am luckily enough to have an amazing wife, Marie, and 2 great kids, Emma (4) and Carter (2). I love being a dad and a husband, and creating family memories.

Q: Why did you join FWHR?

A: I joined to connect with other local Fort Worth HR professionals and have a better insight of current challenges and trends impacting the HR profession. As a bonus, I have made some great friends over the past 5 years.

Q: What has been your favorite event to participate in at FWHR?

A: The Holiday party. It’s a great annual event benefiting Diamond Hill elementary, and where else can I wear a Christmas suit?!

Q: What trends and/or challenges do you see in HR today?

A: Organizations are asking their HR professionals do more than ever before with less and less tools and resources.

Q: What advice would you give to new members of FWHR?

A: Get involved early and often to meet as many people as possible.

Emerging HR Professional of The Month: Desiree Dority

Desiree Dority is a a member of FWHR, a Human Resources assistant for the city of Azle, and a student at the University of North Texas. Along her journey, Desiree achieved a perfect grade point average during her Fall 2018 semester! She will graduate cum laude on May 11, 2019 with a BBA in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management.

We asked Desiree what she enjoys most about the field of Human Resources and how FWHR has helped in her professional development. "Getting to interact with people who have different backgrounds and skills allows me to get a better understanding of the organization and the impact I have. I enjoy helping people and a career within HR allows me to do that."

Naturally, Desiree works with many diverse people and businesses as an assistant in the Human Resource department for the city of Azle. She says this real-world experience, coupled with her luncheons and legal hours at monthly FWHR events, benefits her greatly as she tries to stay up to date with new developments in the world of human resources.

"I will soon be graduating from UNT and I look forward to entering the workforce. FWHR has allowed me to build my network and even attend the HR Southwest Conference this past year. I am so grateful for everything that this organization has done for me in such a short amount of time. I feel more comfortable now putting myself out there and introducing myself. I am excited to be graduating soon, but even more excited to see where HR will take me."

Desiree has also been helping the Emerging HR Professionals Committee while attending meetings at the UNT SHRM chapter. FWHR is proud to partner with students and professionals like her. We encourage you to thank Desiree for her volunteer efforts with the organization when you see her at our next event.
