HR educational excellence scholarship

FWHR is eager to recognize and award students who have demonstrated academic excellence and an interest in selecting a career in the human resource arena.

A single recipient will be selected in the fall to receive a $1,000 scholarship on behalf of FWHR to aid in their pursuit of higher education in human resources or a related field. This scholarship may be applied towards tuition, fees, and/or books for the upcoming Spring academic year.

This is an exceptional opportunity for HR professionals who are committed to enriching their knowledge of human resources and their passion for then sharing that knowledge while putting it into practice to benefit employers and the current & future generations.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Enrolled as a full-time student in an undergraduate program, such as human resources or related course of study, at an accredited and approved college or university OR a full-time or part-time graduate student
  • Overall GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • Fort Worth HR Student Member preferred
  • Students must not be graduating prior to the spring of their application

selection criteria

  • All-around academic standing
  • Participation in university and community activities
  • Demonstration of leadership qualities
  • Interest in the human resources field
  • Preference will be given to Fort Worth HR student members, collegiate SHRM chapter member, or National SHRM member
  • Preference will be given to Human Resource Management majors and those with relevant and related work experience

5 Additional Documents:

  • Autobiographical essay one page in length describing why you are pursuing a degree in HR or your related field
  • Current resume that includes college activities, including SHRM and relevant organizations, community service in which you have participated without pay, special awards, honors, and offices held. Include participation in any research projects as well.
  • Transcript (official or unofficial) and/or proof of admittance and registration.
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation:
    • 1 letter must be from an academic advisor, professor, or instructor. 
    • 1 letter must be from a supervisor or manager (personal references are acceptable if no work history or internship history is applicable).

HRSouthwest Conference Scholarship

 


The HRSouthwest Conference (HRSWC), powered by DallasHR, is recognized as one of the largest regional human resources events in the United States. The conference offers educational sessions with nationally renowned keynote speakers.  

FWHR will send at least two recipients to the conference by covering the cost of registration and parking (if applicable).

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Students must be taking at least 6 credit hours at the time of the conference to be eligible.
  • Students must be a member of a collegiate SHRM Chapter, local SHRM chapter, or SHRM National.

The HRSouthwest Conference will be mid-October - official dates soon to be announced.

SHRM Sponsored Scholarships & Awards

Practicing HR requires specialized training and lots of support. That’s why each year the SHRM Foundation provides more than $500,000 in financial assistance to individuals preparing for their first job in HR or studying to fast-track their existing career in human resources.
